Thanks again for your “pre-trip research.” I’m happy to say the 2007-08 Fit’s locking cap is working perfectly on the 2009. I installed it after I got the car home Saturday morning. (The original cap and tether are stashed in the spare tire well just in case.) The car has now covered about 350 miles and there hasn’t been a Check Engine or Loose Cap warning light. No fuel odors, no sloshing or leakage, the filler door closes and nobody’s going to be siphoning off this guy. So, if any 2009 buyers want to know if the older model cap will work, I’d say it’s a go.

This locking gas cap does work on a 2012 Honda Fit (I contacted Honda USA and was told that using it would NOT affect the car's warranty). You can have the cap's lock keyed to fit your Honda's ignition key (DO NOT install the keyway/keyhole into the body of the gas cap before you take it to a locksmith). The key is laser-cut, so you'll need to call locksmiths first and ask if they have the internal replacement parts for keyways that accept laser-cut keys. (The largest locksmith in town didn't have the parts, but I found a smaller locksmith who did more automotive key work and they had them... don't give up, it's nice to have one key that fits all). BTW, the tether is not that hard to undo from the filler door, it involves squeezing together and then sliding, if I recall correctly. It's just a bit of a puzzle that you'll figure out. I did it with just my fingers (and maybe a tiny screwdriver to push/slide things with). It would be nice to have a tether, but I'm surviving without one. Good luck!

I love my Fit, but I wish it had an interior fuel door release. Fortunately, this locking gas cap is the next best thing. Works great, no problems at all, so far.

Works great on 2011 Honda Element had rekeyed for $20 nice to have just one key. No teather no problem since it has a holder for the cap.

This works well on my 2013 Base Fit. I got the cup holder ash tray, too and keep the gas key there. That way I have just the key and no scratch danger from a big bunch of keys. Plus a place to keep parking change. This cap is worth it for the peace of mind.

Installed this on my 2011 Fit Sport. No Check Engine light and no problems. Cost about $15 to have it rekeyed at a local locksmith.

I wanted a locking gas cap for my 208 Fit. The one I had fell and broke. It was another company's but I could no longer find it. Other gas caps made my check engine light come on. This gas cap fixed this problem, so I'm getting an extra one.

I used it on my 2010 Element and so far so good. My chief complaint is that you have to sacrifice the tether to use the locking cap. The nut that attaches the tether is REALLY hard to get to, too. I finally took a small box wrench and pressed the tines inward, because the needlenose pliers just weren't doing it.

I just got my gas cap and had it re-keyed for 25. Now I only have one key for the ignition and gas cap. I am using it on 2012 Honda Fit.

I had the gas cap for over a month now on my 2012 Fit no check engine light so far. It works, call some small Lock and Key service that is how I got my gas cap re-keyed. I highly recommend it.
